Entertainment Center Makeover

We found one! :)  After weeks of searching for the perfect piece of furniture, the perfect one came up on craigslist.  It was only $25 and it was at a thrift store...much better then having to go to someone's home. :)  It is absolutely perfect, and totally from the Lord.  I will post pics soon of the before and after, but here is a pic of the front of it in the thrift store.  This is what I saw on craigslist. Can't wait to show you the finished product...Kev is still putting the doors and knobs on.

Still Searching...

I never realized how hard finding the perfect media center is!  So difficult....I have been searching everyday for the perfect piece of furniture...while Micah continues to put his fingerprints all over our TV!  I just came across this before and after picture of a stereo cabinet that has been redone.  This would be PERFECT for us!  It has glass doors and lots of storage...so cute. The search continues...

Tillandsia Plant Chandelier

We have a corner in our bedroom that needs some greenery so I decided to make a Tillandsia Plant Chandelier.  We don't get a ton of light in our place so i decided to go with air plants. :)  I came across this idea on another blog when I was looking online for where to by the plants.   Just hang these candle holders from some twine, place the plants in the holders and hang them all from a cute hook.  So fun!

$3.95 each from cb2.com

Aged Bird Hook from Elizabeth's Embellishments $7.95. Here is a link: http://www.elizabethsembellishments.com/Aged-Green-Bird-Hook.html

The Hunt for a New Entertainment Center

A few weeks ago the Lord blessed Kevin and me with a great deal on a new bed.  We are SO thankful, especially when Micah needs to share our bed with us because he takes up a LOT of room.  While we were at IKEA picking up our new bed frame, we were looking at entertainment units.  I'm trying to not buy IKEA furniture because, since we've been married, only a few pieces of furniture have NOT been from IKEA.  So anyway, we were just checking them out and the only one I actually liked was this
IKEA TROLLSTA sideboard
It is so cute, but I've decided that I really would rather find something vintage and fix it up myself.  So we are on the hunt for something super cool for our living room...before Micah destroys our flat screen (yikes!). Here are some inspiring pics...adorable pieces!

Blue Windows Bunnies

I made my boss a bunny as a part of her birthday gift and she asked if I wanted to sell some in the store.  She thought they would sell so I made 7 in 3 days!  The first four sold within 6 days of being in the store.  It was so much fun to make a little extra money and be able to contribute to her business. :)

Easter Bunnies

This is my latest project...Easter Bunnies.  I originally just made one for Micah's Easter basket.  But then I decided to make one for my friend's baby shower, one for my boss/friend, and one for Micah's cousin for Easter.  I embroidered the recipient's first initial on the back of them...just above their right leg (not shown).  Welcome Spring! So happy you are here...

The Chair of Hope

I was feeling a little discouraged a couple of weeks ago because there is so much I would LOVE to do around our place, but we just don't have the finances to do it.  BUT maybe we can after all!!!!  A few Sunday mornings ago Micah was sick so we didn't go to church.  I had to work that day, but before I went in we decided to take Micah on a walk outside.  As we were leaving we walked by a few dumpsters and sitting outside was this sweet little old chair.  I was SO excited I ran and grabbed it right then and put it inside of our door until we got back from our walk...after all, I didn't want someone else to take it!! It seriously made my whole week.  It was better then buying a chair because I got to creative and make it my own.  Thank You Lord!!!!!  I know it was from Him. :)  Here my the process of renewing the chair:

This is how it looked when I picked it up

Took off the upholstery and bought the materials I needed for the project: Sandpaper, Spray Paint, Material, Quilt Batting

Sanded the chair down

Primer (Had to relocate to my parents backyard)

Taadaaaa! All finished (with some help from my amazing parents!)

It now sits in our bedroom. Loved. <3

Baseball Sign

After spending some serious time on this project, the burlap baseball sign for Micah's room is finished! I had just enough embroidery floss...so glad because I really don't enjoy bringing Micah to the fabric store unless I REALLY want to go. :)

March Fun

I haven't been blogging much because I have very little free time during the day.  And lately in my free time, I've been working on projects for my son's room, St. Patrick's Day (which is now past), and now Easter.  I also recently borrowed Martha Stewart's Sewing book from my mom and I am obsessed.  I have her craft book which I also love, and tend to get lost in.  I have been contemplating starting at letter A in the book and working my way thru Z making a project from each letter in the book. :)  Who knows, maybe I'll do it. :)

Anyway, here are some of my most recent projects I have been working on.
Burlap St. Patrick's Day Door Hanger
                  Shamrocks for my boy's room
Cornice Board for his window also...looks SO much cuter now with it up!

With the leftover foam board I had from the cornice board I made for my son's window, I decided to make his name for his room and hang it over his french alphabet poster (his fav since birth).  I bought a red frame for the alphabet poster from IKEA and it looks so cute all hung up!  (I didn't have time to buy a frame before he was born.)

My son, Micah, loves baseball and his Dad is a coach so we live baseball in our home it seems.  Micah really loves playing with baseballs so I decided to make his room a vintage baseball theme.  His room is in progress, but each thing I add makes his room so much more bright and playful.   I actually finished this project above but I haven't had a chance to take a pic of it.  I will soon...

So that is all for now. :)  I am currently working on shower gifts and Easter gifts, and getting ready to have our families over for Easter as well, which we absolutely love doing.  :)  Happy Spring!

Happy Valentine's Day 2011

This year I decided to make the girls I work with Valentines cd's and I sewed little fabric holders for them.  I wrapped them in brown paper with white paper heart doilies.

Since our anniversary is so close to Valentine's Day, we just like to cook at home for our special dinner.  I honestly usually like it better then I would a restaurant anyway...I like knowing exactly what is in my food...and it is usually healthier.  This year we had salmon, asparagus, and rice and chocolate fondue for dessert.  For the fondue we had strawberries, bananas and semi-homemade marshmallows (they were from a barefoot box.)  The marshmallows were actually very good with the fondue compared to store bought.

cd's for the girls at work!

wax paper hearts for my little valentine

love these votives from Roost

I love fondue!

Hanging Vases from West Elm

Aren't these the cutest?  I do not have a green thumb at this point in my life so I love that these only need water and air to grow!  Our apt. doesn't have great light for plants.  I can't wait to purchase a couple of these for our living room! :)  They are little pics, but so cute...check them out! www.westelm.com

Tiny Forever Pendant by Anthony Lawson

Blue Windows in Belmont Shore carries a few pieces from Anthony Lawson's line of jewelry.  This is on my wish list for our 6th Wedding Anniversary coming up in just a few weeks.  I love it because it is our initials! :)  Made of Sterling Silver.

Renaissance Shelf from SimplicityDecor.com

This is SUCH a cute shelf!  I love the metal brackets on this.  The shelf is made of Mango Wood.  It was featured in Martha Stewart Living in Sept. 2009 and I have liked it ever since.  The price has gone up from $84 to $90 since then...I don't like that part. :)

Advent Calendar

I love this advent calendar from Potterybarn. Looks so great for kids!  I want to make my own. :) Hopefully for next year!
